The satellite radio market for Broadway music is getting a little more crowded with the introduction of Sirius Satellite Radio's 'Broadway's Best'. Just like Broadway's own 1010WINS, 24/7 Sirius will also introduce Radio Playbill, with news headlines can now be heard throughout the day at the top of each hour, seven days a week. 'Broadway's Best' is also being streamed through the Sirius website at www.SiriusRadio.com. Breaking news will be added "day-of" as it happens. It is hosted by former Theatre.com editor, Robert Viagas, who now works for Playbill's broadcast division.

And my last rant of the day: has anyone seen the Commercial Theater Institute's lineup of producers for the panel on producing a Broadway musical? Steven Baruch. Okay. Marty Bell. Absolutely. Hal Luftig. Sure. Lauren Mitchell. Of course. And Jordan Roth. Oh my. If you would like to attend the three day CTI intensive workshop on producing (April 26-28, $295), call Fred Vogel at 212-568-1109. You may want to ask him a question or two.

MUSICAL FLARES by MICHAEL RIEDEL

IS Encores! expecting too much from its performers?Actors Equity is looking into complaints that the popular City Center series is pressuring actors to deliver the kind of polished, exacting performances normally associated with Broadway shows - even though an Encores! production is ostensibly a staged concert.
Equity is mad at Encores... blah blah blah blah... we've heard this for years. Just as Equity bullies small producers, large producers bully Equity. It is just the 'Circle of Life'...
