Talkin' Broadway

The above raves for Elaine Stritch At Liberty are very well deserved (I hear rumors there's another one on Talkin' Broadway as well). The show has improved since its stint at the Public Theater, and fills out the Neil Simon Theatre perfectly. If you haven't seen it yet, you should waste no time (you only have until May 26!), and if you saw it Off-Broadway, you haven't really seen it!

ON STAGE AND OFF

'Color Purple' Set to Music by JESSE MCKINLEY

"First and most famously, there was the Slip Heard Round the World, wherein an unknown extra fell off the stage and into the headlines near the close of "War and Peace" at the Metropolitan Opera. The extra, Simon Deonarian, was fired. Even worse, he was accused of overacting by opera executives, no less."
(My favorite passage of the morning.)

Legit duo take center stage

Ex-First Lady Clinton on hand as Jones roasts Weisslers
Let other legit producers have a big new Broadway hit. Barry and Fran Weissler had the major casting coup of Hillary Rodham Clinton joining them for the UJA Federation gala in their honor Monday night. The New York junior senator's speech and attendance at the Pierre Hotel certainly broke the mold of the-usual-suspects guest list of every other theater fund-raiser in memory.
And lets not forget that today is Barry's birthday. He is 40.

OH, YOU KID!

By MICHAEL RIEDEL
NOTE to the Goat: Call your agent (Old MacDonald?) and your union (the ASPCA?) - your job's on the line. There's a big debate raging backstage at "The Goat or Who Is Sylvia?" - Edward Albee's new play about a man who falls in love with a goat - about whether or not the four-legged performer should appear on stage.

And another one:
Just so you know, THE PRODUCERS will not arrive in London before Fall 2003. CHICAGO is still going strong (actually stronger than ever) at the Aldelphi and there are no definite plans for THE PRODUCERS to replace CHICAGO.
