This is just a rumor, but still...

I really could not say it any better than Richard does in his review.

There really is not anything else to cover today except for the obvious. Musical theatre has changed, once again. At the party last night at Roseland, not one person there even remembered the Ragtime or Lion King opening. Those shows never happened. "The Producers" is here. For a long, long, long time. Bravo.

Well, since The Producers is making big enough news everywhere else, why not here? There's certainly plenty to talk about...

Well, just about all the reviewers seem to agree on The Producers. Barnes in The Post and Kissel in the Daily News even agree. Finally, we found a show that manages to unite the critics! Unfortunately, it's not all good news:

Wasn't this really just a matter of time? Ticket prices seem to be increasing at an exponential rate lately. The story doesn't mention whether or not the $100 price includes the infamous "restoration fee," though I think we can all guess. Will there eventually be a revolt over high ticket prices? Is there any price people simply will not be willing to pay to see a play on Broadway? Strange as it may seem, there ARE other things going on:

This last story has since proved to be false, but it should be required reading if you don't know much about the Barrymore family.

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Drama Desk panel with Marian Seldes, Kathleen Freeman, Betty Garrett, Jane White, Polly Bergen, Carol Woods, and Joan Roberts. What an amazing event that was. In addition to getting to hear each ruminate about her career, show business, and the creation behind the shows in which they are currently appearing, I was able to meet Bergen, Garrett, Freeman, Woods, and Roberts in person, which was thrilling for me. Each of these women has had a lengthy career for a reason. Plus, each was as nice and funny as could be. They are all true stars, and have worked very hard for the success that has come to them.
