Blind Email Received:

The Kennedy Center, as reported in yesterdays editions of the Washington Post, is reportedly courting Hugh Jackman (and he has apparently shown interest) to headline the Eric Schaeffer directed production of "Company" at next year's Kennedy Center Sondheim Celebration. He would, of course, play Bobby.

Talk of the town this weekend was that Faith Prince was extremely pleased with the substantial raise that Michael Reidel gave her in his column last week...

On this day in 1892, The opera "I Pagliacci," by Ruggiero Leoncavallo, was first performed, in Milan, Italy. On this day in 1959, The musical "Gypsy," inspired by the life of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, opened on Broadway. Today's birthdays include: Mr. T, Judge Reinhold, Edwin Christy, Henri Rousseau and Fats Waller.

Jed Bernstein said at last year's Tony Awards that Broadway is a community of people who do not know each other. He encouraged everyone in the theatre community to shake one another's hand in a show of support of friendship in the industry. I know that for the most part, this is the norm. Broadway casts support other Broadway casts. The producers are not afraid to call each other to partner or to say hello. The missing part? The fans. I have seen all over the internet newsgroups and message boards fans arguing that a show didn't deserve to be on Broadway and taking those attacks very personal. It's time to pull together as the world will be watching the Broadway community in the coming weeks.

And I'm here to remind you
Of the mess you left when you went away
It's not fair to deny me
Of the cross I bear that you gave to me
    You, you, you oughta know

      -- Alanis Morissette

A message from the composer of Jane Eyre
With all the complaining about the internet in regards to theatre, I wanted to point out that people are using it to contact groups of people that would have been hard to do before.

Giuliani Makes Choices for a Decency Panel on Art

Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani has come up with a list that includes members of his administration, friendly clerics and his own divorce lawyer to sit on his decency panel.
We should put Marcia Lewis on this panel to kiss some ass and protect Broadway's (and every artist's) rights. This can become a really big issue.

I won't give away the ending, but the Super Bowl commercials became more interesting than the game. I liked the eTrade commercial the best, as the monkey walked through a cemetary of dead .com's. A little too close to home, but funny. And the "wassup" commercial. Missed the one with Dole.
