Review: Red Velvet (Chicago Shakespeare Theater)
Chicago Shakespeare Theater's Red Velvet chronicles Ira Aldridge's groundbreaking but ill-timed two-day run as Othello at Covent Garden in 1833, the first African-American actor to star on a professional Shakespearean stage. This sad-but-true moving and memorable story by playwright Lolita Chakrabarti is propelled by stellar lead actor Dion Johnstone as Aldridge. Highly Recommended. (review by Lauren Whalen)
