Avant-garde and absurdist playwright Eugene Ionesco was born in Slatina, Romania to a Romanian father and a French-Romanian mother, and he wrote mostly in French. Not surprisingly, one does not immediately associate Ionesco with Yiddish or the Yiddish theater.
