'Mothers and Sons' reflects age of gay rights by Joe Dziemianowicz

When Terrence McNally wrote his first play about a gay couple, its graphic and unabashed take on homosexuality proved too much for New York. The play, "And Things That Go Bump in the Night," premiered in London in 1964 but lasted on Broadway for just 16 performances.
