The 1970s: Wit and wonder
After a small and innocent beginning in the Niagara-on-the-Lake Court House in 1962, the Shaw Festival grew up in many ways in its second decade, acquiring its flagship Festival Theatre, touring across Canada and pleasing increasing numbers of audiences, thanks to the work of its devilishly charming Artistic Director, Paxton Whitehead, who turned the reins over to Christopher Newton in 1980.
