Art of Jewish WPA painter's legacy lives on

Benjamin Abramowitz was only 19 when he disregarded his Russian immigrant parents' advice that painting was no way to make a living. He changed his name and joined the Work Projects Administration, President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal agency to hire millions of unemployed people during poor economic times.
