Sure it's a period piece. And sure, it takes a strong lead to put over the somewhat simplistic "let's open a school" version of the popular "let's put on a play" plot and to avoid tarnishing the virtues of Miss Moffat's commitment by the implication that a worldly career outweighs all considerations of familial connection. Happily Burton gives a feisty, funny and vital performance.
