'Once Upon a Time' fails as fable By Chris Jones
It's a retro and largely charmless rehash of musical theater and Joisy mob stereotyping. Despite a crushingly simplistic story that makes Broadway's "Jersey Boys" look like Chekhov, it still manages to be a dramaturgical mess. And worse, Marc Robin's surprisingly drab premiere production is chronically miscast.
