'Passion Play' mixes suds and symbols BY MICHAEL SOMMERS
A worthwhile idea possibly muddled from too many rewrites by an author still forging her craft and voice, "Passion Play" is a disappointment. But at least the ever-enterprising Epic Theatre …

Smart writing, a genuinely tuneful score and a good deal of sincere feeling makes this bright show easy to love.
Spirited acting enlivens Ostrovsky's Russian romance
Film director fails to fire a dud drama by Beth Henley
Frankly, it's a stretch for Scott to project her beguiling brand of wide-eyed semi-innocence effectively in an expansive 750-seat house. Fortunately she gets some help and the show is an agr…
Manhattan Theatre Club's nicely-tooled Broadway edition of Collected Stories stars Linda Lavin as a feisty Jewish writer passing her later life in a Village apartment brimming with books and memories. Talk about perfect casting for a greatly gifted actress: The wry character of Ruth Steiner fits Lavin just as naturally as designer Jane Greenwood dresses the lady in slightly bohemian clothes.
Bewildering though the technicalities of Enron may be to anyone who doesn't own an MBA, the 29-year old Prebble has fashioned a swift journey on a corporate thrill ride. This satirical yet ultimately sobering study in American avarice has been extravagantly staged by Goold and production designer Anthony Ward with frenzies of videos, projections, lighting and sound effects that support the story and display a lot of incidental smarts.
Viola Davis costars in a solid staging of August Wilson's drama
Suits are sleek, secretaries are toys and everybody cheats and boozes. Mad Men: The Musical. Director-choreographer Rob Ashford's production, unfortunately, proves to be too much of a (mostly) good thing.
New bio-show smartly depicts a genius in words and music
The overriding problem with this very loud and ultimately tiresome effort is that the story's angry, angst-riddled characters prove to be little more than self-pitying losers bucked up by on…
Kelsey Grammer and Douglas Hodge costar in a modest yet merry revival.
For all of the sweat and cunning invested in this enterprise, there's a fresh sense of spontaneity to the joyful music-making in Million Dollar Quartet that melts away any scent of the waxworks. If this event seems more suited to Branson than Broadway customers, it still offers audiences one very hot time.
Although this adventurous opus isn't a show for mass consumption, it's great to see it served so well as a nice slice of cake in honor of Sondheim's 80th birthday.
The results are an expert, energetic attraction that could be far sharper in terms of composition, but likely to satisfy anyone who loves the Addams, appreciates terrific performances and re…
Messy show satirizes past and present populist movements
People born when Lend Me a Tenor premiered on Broadway just turned 21, so it's time for a new generation to laugh themselves silly over Ken Ludwig's frisky hotel room comedy. The original production was a major hit and a similar success looks likely for this brightly performed and highly enjoyable Broadway revival which opened Sunday at the Music Box Theatre.
Yet for all of its excellence, the Donmar Warehouse import from London which opened Thursday at the Golden Theatre lacks the sizzle one usually expects to enjoy in a hot Broadway drama. Alfr…
Since this modest 90-minute comedy-drama does not much develop beyond its situation, let's not divulge the guys' intimate conversations except to note that sizable laughs arise and towards t…
Impressionistic dance-drama offers hot if not customary Broadway fare
Tennessee Williams' classic drama benefits from a fresh approach
Uneasy teaming and spotty material yields so-what Broadway show
At first glance, "The Book of Grace" doesn't stack up as one of Parks' major works but this ambitious and cautionary piece may well intrigue viewers willing to scope out a theme beyond the b…
From the sniffles pervading the auditorium, apparently some people are moved deeply by this comedy-drama-weeper. Not me. At least not in the way the playwright intends. Frankly I could scarc…
