Almost 20 years ago, Jay Donnell saw the musical "Ragtime" and, to hear him tell it, suddenly knew his place was on the stage instead of in the audience. Now Donnell is about to star as Coalhouse Walker Jr. in the San Diego Musical Theatre revival opening this weekend at the Spreckels Theatre downtown.
