The Shirelles turned "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?" into a two-and-a-half minute opera of longing, hope and pop glory (those strings!). Smokey Robinson transformed the tune into a slow-burn soul jam. Amy Winehouse elevated it to a big, brassy, Shirley Bassey-esque tower of a music. I imagine the Ramones, Johnny Cash or Bob Marley could have found the magic in it.
