An hour before he took the stage, Mike Pourhadi, Chicago's newest live-lit bard, ordered an Allagash Victor Ale at the Black Rock Pub (3614 N. Damen Ave.) and hoped its high alcohol content - 9 percent - would settle his nerves and help stave off his perspiration from soaking through his T-shirt.
