Original Pippin now plays role of his father

Stephen Schwartz was a virtual unknown in 1972 when, in a bit of theatrical magic, he took a concept from his days at Carnegie Mellon University, teamed with Bob Fosse and rewrote history based fleetingly on a son of the Emperor Charlemagne. What emerged was "Pippin," a dark fantasy about a young man's search for fulfillment that ran for nearly 2,000 performances in five years on Broadway.
