When he sat down to write "Deathtrap," Ira Levin fashioned the struggling Sidney Bruhl after himself, creating an endlessly self-reflecting mirror which, for more than a quarter of a century, has fascinated everyone who gazes into it. It was also a lucrative middle finger to a fickle industry.
