Complicated doesn't have to mean unclear
In the realm of high fantasy, complexity is a badge of honor. This has been true since the days of J.R.R. Tolkien, whose seminal works of the genre are neither brief nor monolithic reads, and you can even see it manifest in the HBO series "Game of Thrones," which would wear its narrative complexity proudly on its sleeve, if it did not have such a palpable love of naked flesh.
