Since 1991 the Dr. Lecter character has stayed on the cultural radar in films ("Hannibal Rising"), an Off Broadway stage parody ("Silence! The Musical") and, most recently, the NBC drama "Hannibal." In 2011 "Silence of the Lambs" was selected to be preserved in the National Film Registry.
