PORTLAND, Maine — Max Pechstein’s “Early Morning’’ is Expressionism at its most lyrical and suave. It hits the eye like freshly squeezed grapefruit juice on a furry morning tongue. It is sweet and tasty, but tart — there’s just enough acid in it to rinse off the stale accretions of night.
