'Jewish Jocks' looks at the love affair between Jews and sports

Daniel Mendoza came from the school of hard knocks - if he didn't found the school outright. He fought bare-knuckled, as they did in England in the 1780s, and put to bed the likes of Harry the Coalheaver and Butcher Martin. Such was his celebrity that King George III summoned Medoza to the palace for a chat. His fellow Jews called him "The Light of Israel."
