Adaptation of The Exorcist Opens July 11; Brooke Shields, Richard Chamberlain, Emily Yetter Star
A stage version of William Peter Blatty's horror novel "The Excorcist" has heads turning at Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, where previews began July 3 leading to the July 11 opening. Brooke Shields plays the mother of a girl possessed by the devil. Tony Award winner John Doyle stages the adaptation by John Pielmeier, the playwright whose Agnes of God also dealt with faith and the supernatural.
