Wanamaker's Pursuit, a new play by Rogelio Martinez at the Arden Theatre, is the first show of the Paris-themed PIFA (Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts). It is not an auspicious beginning. The play amounts to high modernism reduced to a soap opera, managing to be both pretentious and shallow simultaneously, a historical drama written almost entirely in Googled quotations.
