Jon Imber’s career trajectory has taken him from precise figuration to exuberant abstract expressionist landscapes and still lifes. This has happened gradually over three decades, and still every Imber show surprises me, because he lets go even more into exuberant abstraction. As a young artist he mastered his paint, and since then he has slowly been surrendering to it.
