When staging Beauty for The National Ballet of Canada in 1972, the late Rudolf Nureyev drew on his classical Russian roots. The results proved stunning, and the work thrust the company onto the international map, launching the careers of Canadian dancers such as Karen Kain and Frank Augustyn.
