"Mary and I didn't know each other all that well when we started this process," Philip Glass said during a recent chat, "although we had worked on 'Akhnaten,' and I had seen her productions of 'The Odyssey' and 'All's Well That Ends Well.' But I wanted to work with what I teasingly said was 'a young director,' and after all, I'm 65, so she is of a different generation.
