In Edmonton, the playwright's the thing. The thriving Alberta metropolis has been designated "The Cultural Capital of Canada" for 2007 and although there are plenty of examples one could give for this city's artistic vitality, what keeps coming to the foreground is the strength of Edmonton's theatre, especially in its writing community.
