Michael Lepore came of age during the Vietnam War. Although he never went to Vietnam, he served in the U.S. Naval Dental Corps attached to the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He witnessed various ways that the war changed the young people and began to tell their stories through poetry.
