Flushing: I am a wheelchair-using disabled person with a number of medical problems. The last two years, I've been able to enjoy Shakespeare in the Park because it allowed the disabled to reserve tickets in advance and pick them up before the show. The new manager has changed this policy. Now you have to go to the theater at 1 p.m. the day of the show and wait on line. If you are able-bodied, this may not seem like a problem, but for the disabled it can be near impossible. You might have medical conditions that could endanger your health if you sit out in the sun. And those who use Access-A-Ride cannot arrange to be dropped off to wait for tickets, then be picked up and taken to the park for the performance. I believe this new policy will exclude the disabled from being able to attend. He has been eagerly anticipating the day when a national tour would bring AVENUE Q to his hometown.
