[ INQ ]  Musical has an ambitious, Picasso-like reach - but a faulty grasp by Desmond Ryan
La Vie en Bleu, the boldly ambitious musical that opens the Walnut Street Theatre's season, takes us all the way from Picasso's arrival in Paris at the turn of the century through the creation of his anguished masterpiece Guernica, devoted to the victims of a Basque village killed by German bombs in 1937 during the Spanish Civil War.

Broadway has seldom been so busy. Musicals, new plays, revivals, and solo shows will vie for consumer dollars and provide jobs for actors, singers, and dancers.

[ BS ]  "Cops," Street Fairs and "Not a Freak Show"
Though Fringing throughout middle August burnt out many of us, there are a bevy of new off-off Broadway shows and other activities worth attending in the next week.

[ CT ]  Actors break character, strut stuff for good cause by Chris Jones
Six nights a week, Omari Tau belts out Elton John and plays one of Julie Taymor's faceless, four-legged puppet-critters in the African jungle. But judging by Monday night, this diminutive actor's heart really belongs to Stephen Sondheim.
The sweet-voiced Tau brought the house down at Park West Monday night with an exquisite treatment of "Losing My Mind" from "Follies." His performance was part of a long, dark-night cabaret put together by the sit-down Chicago casts of "The Lion King" and "Mamma Mia!" with the aim of raising money for the Shriners Hospital for Children.
