"Henry V" - Reviews:

[ NYT ]  THEATER REVIEW | 'HENRY V'
An Evening in the Park With a Playboy Prince by BEN BRANTLEY

Where is that old muse of fire when you need her? That goddess of inspiration, beseechingly evoked in the prologue of "Henry V," appears to be on vacation this summer. Maybe she's been co-opted as a houseguest by some movie producer in the Hamptons. In any case she is definitely keeping her distance from the flashy, flabby production of Shakespeare's gung-ho military history play that opened last night at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

Review by Adam Feldman

The Public Theater's exemplary new production of Henry V in Central Park could not ask for a better backdrop: the stately Belvedere Castle, looming up from behind the outdoor stage at the Delacorte Theatre.

'Producers': To Ape or Ignore You-Know-Who? by BRUCE WEBER

Mr. Lane's template for Max is the one element of the show that has not been effectively reproduced or replaced by any of the actors who have subsequently played the role. And this is especially pertinent because for the show to return to megahit status on Broadway last week it was just the fourth highest-grossing show, with Variety reporting that only 83.2 percent of the seats at the St. James Theater were filled it is likely that name-brand stars will have to take over.

[ NYT ]  BOOKS OF THE TIMES | 'KATE REMEMBERED'
Hepburn: The Authorized (It Says Here) Version by MICHIKO KAKUTANI

"Kate Remembered" is a strange hybrid: part biography, part memoir; part hagiography, part pathography; part affectionate tribute by a friend and fan; part name-dropping exercise in voyeurism, rushed into print two weeks after Katharine Hepburn's death.

[ BEE ]  With a new facility and a sparkling season premiere, the Music Circus is feline groovy by Marcus Crowder
A dream was realized Tuesday night. With a sparkling new production of "Cats," California Musical Theatre broke the seal on the 53rd season of the Music Circus and its new, Teflon-covered permanent structure, the Wells Fargo Pavilion.

Rupert Holmes, it can certainly be said, is a man of mysteries. The playwright/composer won three Tonys for the musical "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" and an Edgar award for the Broadway thriller "Accomplice." With his first suspense novel, "Where the Truth Lies," he turns out a book that has all the popular bounce of "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)," a mega-hit he wrote and performed.
