Saturday, January 25, 2003 Features: [ YN ] Playwright Gibson Holding Onto His Pen by ADAM GORLICK, Associated Press Writer William Gibson moved audiences with the story of Helen Keller, made them laugh with a romantic comedy and compelled them to ponder questions of global power. Now, at 88, the playwright who gave the stage a dozen plays is bowing out of theatrical writing. But the compulsive creator isn't ready to set down his pen. [ NYT ] Doris Fisher, Songwriter for Ella Fitzgerald, Dies at 87 Among Ms. Fisher's songs, all written with a co-author, were "Whispering Grass (Don't Tell the Trees)," a hit for the Ink Spots in 1940; "Angelina (the Waitress at the Pizzeria)," sung by Louis Prima; and "Tutti-Frutti," written with Slim Gaillard, a hit in 1938 that was eclipsed by Little Richard's wildly onomatopoeic song of the same title in 1956. The basic concept of actors' speaking to one another like normal human beings one minute, and then throwing out any allegiance to plot or character development the next as they burst into song, is downright goofy.
