As it is, the only chills aroused by "Vampires" come in a perusal of the credits: How could so many talented people have shot so wide of the mark? [ NYP ] NEEDS NEW BLOOD by CLIVE BARNES OH Buffy, you Vampire Slayer - where were you when we needed you? There are altogether far too many vapid vampires in the new musical "Dance of the Vampires," which opened at the Minskoff Theatre last night. [ YN ] 'Dance of the Vampires' Hits Broadway by MICHAEL KUCHWARA, AP Drama Critic They have unleashed an expensive, more than $10 million musical of mind-numbing silliness, a show that wastes its performers, most notably Michael Crawford, and dazes audiences who have to sit through its campy, yet mirthless meanderings. [ ND ] Seductive 'Vampire' Is of Mixed Blood by Linda Winer The show has a peasant ensemble number about garlic that, except for it being a joke, could be compared in tastelessness with the pig-blood dance from the infamous "Carrie" musical. There is also "Death is Such an Odd Thing," which sounds a lot like the immortal "Paris Makes Me Horny" from "Victor/Victoria."
