As we have approached the one year anniversary of the attacks in New York and D.C. as well as the plane crash in Pennsylvania, it is impossible to pick up a newspaper or turn on a television without having to relive that horrible day. It is hard to put my finger on the point at which the story about the terrorist attack became a meal ticket for media companies. Did I really need a special 12-16 page pull out in yesterday's New York Post or Daily News? How about all the television shows that need to relive all of the footage shot that day, over and over, complete with insane commentary from inflammatory political anglers. My girlfriend, Elizabeth, had her office in tower 1 of World Trade Center. On the 40th Floor. She watched the plane go into her building over her head. As we walk through Central Park these days we look uncomfortably at each other every time a plane passes over us. I see others glance upward with a worried look as well. Fucking media. Most of them. We need to heal. All of us. It is hard to heal with us being constantly being brought back that day. There is a need for the memorial ceremonies being held today. There is no need for the media circus that has happened over the course of this year. 2801 perished on this day last year. I was, and am still, amazed that the number was not dramatically higher. I was, and am still, amazed what amazing people are around the world that came to our call in need. From anonymous wonderful gestures of children sending in their lunch money to the victim's fund, to my various friends near and far that made sure that I made it through the emotional aftermath. This is a difficult day for everyone. Lets make it through it together. I can't wait for today to end.
