Hairspray made a big splash when it began Broadway previews last week--the show made a whopping $300,128 in only four preview performances. That tally is higher than many shows that played a full week of regular performances.

[ NYT ]  THEATER REVIEW | 'TWELFTH NIGHT'
Wayward Currents in Unchartered Waters by BEN BRANTLEY

Brian Kulick has brought a seriously stylized, seriously confused interpretation of Shakespeare's most resonant romantic comedy to the Delacourte Theater in Central Park.

[ NYP ]  'NIGHT' FALLS by DONALD LYONS
'TWELFTH Night," the only Public Theater production in Central Park this summer, is one of those magical Shakespearean romances that deal in disguise and twins and love and, done as it ought to be, can break our hearts and crack us up.

[ DN ]  Lots of fun, but little finesse by Howard Kissel
In Brian Kulick's production, at the Delacorte through Aug. 11, there is plenty of rambunctiousness, but not much tension or poetry.
