Saturday, June 01, 2002 As Tim mentioned below, Broadway.com's redesign has been launched. I am not sure if it is done, but there are still tweaks that need to be made. Such as it does not work in Netscape 4.77 on Macintosh. (IE 5.0 seems to be fine.) That would be a small problem. Also another small thing, hopefully they can fix this problem: when you open a page, a strange small windown opens up and then goes behind the page. It has an ad on it! I know they did not mean to do that! :-) Also, right now all the old links (that are on our site to their articles) do not work. It looks at first blush as though they have redesigned their back end database, so the links will not work, but the articles can probably be found with their new search engine... We'll get back to Broadway.com's redesign later. Last night's Theater Talk Special had Jesse McKinley, Patrick Pacheco, Michael Riedel and Susan Haskins talking about predictions for this Sunday. There was nothing too surprising about their opinions, other than their extended discussion of Dodger politics and... that they all voted for SWEET SMELL in Best Musical category. And most importantly: Jesse is going to run against Hillary or Chuck for Senate... posted at 6/1/2002 08:16:49 AM by James Marino | Item Link Friday, May 31, 2002 [ P ] Off-Broadway's Gramercy Theatre to Become MOMA's Temporary Movie House [ P ] Newcomers Cavanaugh and McMahon to Headline Urban Cowboy [ P ] New York Theater Workshop's 2002-03 Season Firms Up [ B ] New York Theater Workshop's Season Shapes Up [ BG ] Sexy Beast by Sally Cragin John Leguizamo reveals himself in his solo show 'Sexaholix ... a love story' [ BG ] Paying for toilets in Paris turns profitable for 'Urinetown' writer by Maureen Dezell posted at 5/31/2002 06:09:07 PM by Tim Dunleavy | Item Link [ B ] MCC Theater Intrigued by Robin's Faye [ B ] Atlantic to Serve Up Works by McPherson & Kaufman [ B ] Theater Pundits Place Their Bets on the 2002 Tonys [ P ] Report: Faith Prince Joins Rees in Man of No Importance [ P ] Natasha Richardson Loves Philip Seymour Hoffman in Roundabout's Miss Julie [ P ] PBOL'S THEATRE WEEK IN REVIEW, May 25-31: The Tony Race [ TM ] Cabaret Notes John Pizzarelli and his folks return to Feinstein's at the Regency. posted at 5/31/2002 03:51:06 PM by Tim Dunleavy | Item Link [ B ] Kate Jennings Grant to Join Broadway's Proof [ B ] Faith Prince Set to Star in A Man of No Importance [ B ] Gramercy Theatre Reverts to Movie House [ P ] Harris and Grant Confirmed to Join Heche in Bway Proof July 2 [ P ] PHOTO CALL: Stars in the Alley: Producers' Oscar, Weber, Cabaret's Stamos [ P ] PHOTO CALL: Stars in the Alley: Urinetown [ P ] PHOTO CALL: Stars in the Alley: Oklahoma! After 10 years of record-breaking gains, Broadway attendance and box-office receipts declined during the 2001-'02 season. This is not a surprising, nor alarming story. Broadway has always been an indicator of Wall Street, if not the whole economy. We are talking about a 3% slip in what could have been double-digit slip if not for the support of the NYC/Tri-State theater audiences that came to rally and support NYC. If you want to see scary numbers, look at the rest of the tourism industry in NYC -- hotels to restaurants would love to have just a 3% slip. Nothing goes straight up. Not the stock market, not the New York Yankees. Why should Broadway not be able to have a slightly off year. Lets not be too alarmist. Lets celebrate that we made it through 2001.
