B'WAY FEUD AT HEART OF 'GOLD!' by MICHAEL REIDEL

ON STAGE AND OFF: With Designs on Broadway by JESSE McKINLEY
Jesse says Fran & Barry looking at Flower Drum Song... also mentioned is that "Summer of '42," is moving up its opening night to Dec. 18.

I keep getting email and calls that '42 is not happening. I guess we will only have to wait another 18 days to see. From all accounts of people who have actually seen the show, it is very good. But that does not mean anything these days.

Donmar stars eyeing B'way run for 'Uncle,' 'Twelfth'
Mendes set to helm London, Gotham versions
Producers Anita Waxman and Elizabeth Williams have confirmed plans to transfer the Donmar Warehouse's upcoming productions of "Uncle Vanya" and "Twelfth Night" to Broadway in spring 2003.

A Tribute To Life In Motion
The events of this fall have focused attention on the energy of heroes. Judith Jamison and Wynton Marsalis had been exploring that subject for some time, but they agree the moment could not have been more appropriate for "Here Now," their collaboration based on Florence Griffith Joyner, the Olympic champion.

Well, aren't we busy little beavers today...
An accident occurred to the Manhattan skyline set piece of Sweet Smell of Success at the Shubert Theatre, Chicago. It seems that someone forgot to cap the end of the pipe which the set was hanging on and it slid right off and plummeted to the stage floor. No one was injured and the damages have yet to be assessed but it doesn't look good.

    Wish them the best.
At least they didn't drop Brian d'Arcy James from a pyramid...

Blind email received:
The Riedel piece today is woefully misinformed. The Broadway option agreement on FLOWER DRUM SONG (already in place for the Taper and their commercial partners) expressly states that the production is forbidden to open in the same season as OKLAHOMA. The R&H Org. did NOT want to put these shows up against each other. The option states that the production must not open before the 2002 Tony cut-off. And the production is not looking for a large theatre.
Hmmmm....

Sondheim's Kabuki Hybrid May Have Found Its Moment by BRUCE WEBER
CHICAGO "Pacific Overtures," the musical by Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman about the emergence of modern Japan, may have come 25 years too soon. It opened on Broadway in January 1976, and with its theme of the West's reckless insinuation of itself into the affairs of the other hemisphere, the echoes of Vietnam were evident, purposeful and badly timed. Not exactly balm for an American audience even a liberal one less than a year removed from the fall of Saigon.

NO, DON'T TELL ME! by DON KAPLAN

Washington Post: 'Trading Spaces'- Along With Anxiety, Surprises
Why are we linking this? Because the host of this show is Paige Davis (formerly Mindy Paige Davis), who recently appeared on Broadway as Annie in "Chicago" and on the "Beauty and the Beast" National Tour as Babbette. Paige is the New host of TLC's "Trading Spaces" which has 6 million viewers a week. Paige was also recently married to Patrick Page, who is playing Scar in the upcoming tour of "The Lion King", and recently concluded a 2 year stint as Lumiere in "Beauty and the Beast" on Broadway. Their wedding will be featured on TLC's "A Wedding Story" Dec. 24.
