Saturday, September 01, 2001 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I bet you didn't know I won a gold medal in figure skating at the Winter Olympics. I'll let you figure out what year. I know, I know, what does this have to do with theatre? Absolutely nothing, although, I bet we could find a few actors and producers who have some interesting pasts, all made up of course. Now, if I could only find that 'Urinetown' article someone told me about earlier today. posted at 9/1/2001 06:25:40 PM by Susan Heim | Item Link ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The cable network is putting the everyday lives of 12 aspiring actors on display in its reality series The It Factor, premiering Sunday, Sept. 30 at 9 PM ET with a one-hour special, and airing from 9 to 9:30 PM ET in succeeding weeks. This is probably the only reality-TV show that the Other James and I will both watch. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's like a Sunday-night-on-HBO fest! I just wanted to point out that Michael was the first to say that Summer of '42 was not going to Boston and would play off-Broadway rather than on. On the bottom of the email was an unsubscribe link to "Decoy Marketing" which is hosted at Mark's Hijinks Design. Mark as you know is the outstanding producer/designer behind the websites Sondheim.com and Fosse.com (among others). Good luck to both of them in the new endeavor. Have a great holiday weekend. Get ready for the drama of the fall on Broadway. Producing theatre in a recession is tough and makes for strange bedfellows. Producing internet sites is even harder. Anyway, the show has transferred very well from off-Bway, and it was a great performance, the audience loved it. If Jordan had taken Rocky to an off-Broadway theatre and kept the ticket price low, had a consistent marketing theme that was in line with his market, he would be sitting on a gold mine. I don't think that this is actually the case. Rock concerts for the most part are the same form of entertainment, albeit in a different market, as the Broadway show. What is happening is that the economy has turned and people are doing less expensive things. People would still like to go to their shows, it is just that they can't afford them. So using the word "boycott" is not really accurate. These forms of entertainment meet a price point. In order to analyze this correctly, you have to look at the whole market. Madonna fans are not boycotting her shows. They are all sold out at a top ticket price. No one is boycotting The Producers or Lion King, both at the top of the scale too. It is because these three different events marketing message give the perception of getting more for your money than the others. These are not the days of wine and roses.
