THE PLAY'S THEIR THING
Kenneth Lonergan and Rebecca Gilman started the same way as teenagers in a program called Young Playwrights Inc.
Founded 20 years ago by Broadway great Stephen Sondheim, the free program gives promising high school students a chance to meet weekly in playwriting workshops.
But the most exciting part of the program, hands down, comes when the kids' own work is staged and this year's reading, open to the public, is Monday.

Urinetown! Auburn! Yazbek! James!
Thanks to Ann for posting this, I tried to link to the magazine but it doesn't list everything in the stage section. When I first read this post, I was thinking maybe Broadway Stars had reached the big time! : ) If it had, we just might have blown up the internet while James was away!

Being from Florida, I am used to seeing gators just lying around but this story even made it to the NBC Nightly News!

If you made it this far, you are doing okay. BroadwayStars.com was "deprovisioned" last night because it got too big (it has too much traffic/bandwidth) for the Interland hosting under the plan that I had. They want me to move to a $6000/year plan... that's not going to happen! Until then, try to use BroadwayStars.org or BroadwayStars.net. The site may be a little (a lot?) unstable beyond the first page.

I am going to be working on making the site work today, so there won't be an update by me. Maybe a few other writers may have time to do it.

Thanks.

So the event that was Broadway Bares 2001 is now a memory, except for the staff of BC/EFA who are at Roseland dismantling the event. Some observations and comments about it: BC/EFA may have the best production team in the business -- problem solvers and not one single attitude. It was great to witness such a wonderful project... During the load-in of the stage platforms (built at Hudson), a few of them were marked "Bells Are Ringing" which caused a few snickers and comments... Jerry Mitchell should be the next Energizer Bunny... and finally, Kim Grigsby can really conduct!

It is *such* a hookey day. If you need me, I will be in Central Park...
