Apparently, A Thousand Clowns wants his full attention, and he chose to stick with that... Revisited Rocky Horror yesterday. Listening to the CD made me want to see it again. Two items of note, Kristen Lee Kelly seems to have taken over the Joan Jett role for now. And Sebastian LaCause is now back to his normal color hair. ("I've been making a man, with... dark hair, and a tan...") When did that happen? And why? :-) Went to the Paper Mill preview of Carousel yesterday at 890 (as Catherine mentioned yesterday). The creative team has put together a great cast. As only Paper Mill can do it, a cast of thousands and I am sure that the production values will be as lavish as anything we have seen out in Milburn. Anyway, you get all that... what I am getting to is that Paper Mill presented a few songs and scenes, including the famous "Bench Scene" (AKA: the best musical theatre scene ever written) and there were a handful of video cameras there. I am sure that you will be able to find the video on Broadway.com very soon. How can you help but admire the way the producers and composer Paul Gordon are handling the situation? In addition, the theatre fans on the Internet (particularly on All That Chat!) are rallying behind them, trying to turn things around, whatever their feelings about the show may be. This is what a theatre community truly should be. Will they prevail, though? Time will tell, but I'll imagine we'll hear soon! He had been battling leukemia. Well, let me just say that I was impressed by Matt Bogart's Billy Bigelow at this morning's press rehearsal of Carousel, which begins performances on May 30th. He sure does brood well. The cast performed three songs and one scene from the show, and it looks like a winner. 'Carousel' being one of my favorite shows has nothing to do with how much I enjoyed the rehearsal. Robert Goulet to Star in 'South Pacific' Revival. You know, what we need is a really good production of 'Carousel'. Neil Simon's '45 Seconds' Sets Broadway Date. Joan Copeland, Harry Goz, Bill Moor, Marian Seldes and Lewis J. Stadlen will star in Neil Simon�s '45 Seconds from Broadway'. The new play, directed by Jerry Zaks, will begin previews on October 16 and open on November 7 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Faith Prince Rings Those 'Bells' And don't forget that the cast recording of 'Bells are Ringing' is due out June 26th from Fynsworth Alley. I think that The Producers were on stage more than Lily Tomlin at last night's Drama Desk Awards. If it is any indication of the temperature of the Tony Awards (which it usually is), the Big Show in June should not be a surprise to anyone... What was a huge (pleasant) surprise is the new recording of Jordan Roth's Rocky Horror Show. Wow. I can't get it out of my CD player. Jeffrey Lesser and Billy Rosenfield have succeeded in capturing a live performance in the studio. The talent as we knew is outstanding and the recording could not have been produced any better. Although I don't see a Tony in this show's future, I definitely see a Grammy. (On the other hand the math of a split Producers vote could end up with Tom Hewitt holding a prize, which is a better performance than Nathan and Matthew anyway.) This CD is a must have for those who are fans of the rock musical. (In case you have been putting off seeing Rocky, there is a 2 for 1 ticket special. Call 212-947-8844 and give code: "RH2for1" or print this page and bring it to the box office.)
