We love 'Ed', the new bowling alley-lawyer TV show on NBC. Maybe not the next West Wing, but perhaps the next Mad About You. Speaking of the Peacock network, I saw a fall promo last night and I would have sworn I saw Kristin Chenoweth dressed in a yellow dress singing. There was no reference to her show, but maybe it will happen afterall.

Secondly we must make a few... well... 'adjustments' to the NYTimes story.

    1) Broadway.com did not break the Seussical story. It was up on many websites before they had it.

    2) Producers always complain. I am a producer, I should know, I complain all the time. I was so upset with the online world, I started my own website. It puts me in a paradox because sometimes I complain about myself. Also, there are not too many "unfounded rumors" that producers can substantiate. If people are tallking about it, there has to be a story somewhere.

    3) Talkin Broadway actually does not have a "chat" room. They have a message board. And more importantly, TB is more than this forum. The site is much more extensive than that.

    4) The "theater chat room" at Deja.com, is not a chat room at all, it is a newsgroup called rec.arts.theatre.musicals, or RATM. Deja is just one of many websites that pickup this newsgroup feed.

    5) The New York Times never contacted BroadwayStars before they wrote that we get "the occasional blind item from a disgruntled cast member." First of all, they can't substantiate that. Secondly, all the websites receive dish from people involved in the business, not just BroadwayStars. Ken Mandelbaum receives his share of them too.

For the most part, the NYTimes article was very useful in outlining the major theatre websites. One more website that I would add to that list: Jill Hobgood's Theatricopia. Now, on to today's other news.

Today's birthdays include: R.L. Stine and Juan D. Peron.

I didn't realize there were that many 12-20 year olds in ATPAM.

I hear the Seussical cast is on a two week paid vacation...

Gloria is the real thing. Saw Gloria last night. A very entertaining show with an outstanding cast. I highly recommend it. Talk around town is that there are London-based producers looking at it. There should be a New York-based producer to transfer it to a commercial run. With the right marketing, it will be a big hit.

ATW redesign is coming along. Andy Propst over at The American Theater Web is almost ready to launch his redesign of the site. I suspect that Andy's skills could be used widely at all of the big three websites. Aside from creating a fast, dynamically database driven site, it is a great graphically too. Congrats Andy.

Man Who Came to Dinner was on PBS last night. From all accounts, it was a good television production. But, today it is closing. Ya see what TV does to a show? (Just kidding. It was of course scheduled that way all along.)

PBS Broadcasts Roundabout's Man Who Came to Dinner w/ Lane and Smart, Oct. 7

Received Blind Email:

"During Act III of MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER last night, someone in the audience yelled "FIRE!!!" when a gel started smoking. Nathan calmed the audience, saying "This is what happens every time I'm fucking on TV!" and went on for a few minutes (cursing left and right) as the audience calmed. It seems the incident was due to the new lighting for the PBS broadcast -- which means the whole incident exists on tape..."

Just to point out before someone says Theatre.com got the story wrong, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" is the title used for book 1 in the UK. The title of the book in the US is of course "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". They both have the same story.
