In anticipation of Sunday, June 8th's 57th Annual Tony Awards, we present some memborable moments from the past.

IT ALL STARTED AS A MEMORIAL TO ANTOINNETTE PERRY
Miss Perry, whose nickname was Tony, was an actress and ground-breaking producer and director in the 30s and 40s. She was a co-founder of the American Theatre Wing and the Stage Door Canteen.

LET THE MONKEYSHINES IN
Legendary Broadway producer and the man who brought the Tonys to national TV, Alexander Cohen (center) in 1969 with cast members of Hair, nominated for Best Musical. BIG NAMES WERE IN LIGHTS IN 1952
And the Tonys paid tribute to Gertrude Lawrence (The King and I), Phil Silvers (Top Banana) and Judy Garland, who received a special Tony for her concert series at the Palace Theatre.

STREISAND RETURNS TO THE STAGE
On the first national telecast, Barbra Streisand returned to the stage briefly at the 1967 Tonys to present the Best Musical award to Cabaret. Afterward, in the press room with John Kander (left) and Fred Ebb.
